To the left, 'Crux S. Patris', to the right 'Benedicti', standing for 'Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti', ('The Cross of [our] Holy Father Benedict'). Surrounding the medal, the phrase 'Eius in obitu nro prae sentia muniamur', standing for 'Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur!' ('May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death')
Stamped with the eagle's head mark for 18 karat gold and French manufacture, along with an unknown maker's mark.
