Terms & Conditions
01 These Terms and Conditions shall apply to all contracts entered into by Shiny Pretty Things Limited ("ShinyPrettyThings", “SPT”, "we" or "us”) which operates the Internet website with the domain name www.shinyprettythings.com (the “Site”), whose registered office is at 3rd Floor, 207 Regent Street, London, W1B 3HH.
02 These Terms and Conditions document your rights and responsibilities and ours with regards to (a) your access to the Site; (b) your use of the Site; (c) any communications sent from ShinyPrettyThings; (d) all information, products, services, and materials contained on or our site.
03 By entering the Site you unconditionally accept the terms and conditions in this Agreement (set out below) and any future alterations we may make.
01 Anyone who enters our Site is considered to be a user ("User"). You are free to enter the site whenever you wish whilst adhering to all the relevant terms and conditions. You alone are absolutely responsible for any information sent to us and its accuracy and validity. You agree that you will not use and that you will not allow the use of any device or method that could possibly interfere with our Site.
02 The use of this website is permitted for personal, non-commercial use only. You may download or copy the contents and other downloadable materials displayed on the site for the sole purpose of placing an order with ShinyPrettyThings or using the site as a shopping resource. This does not give you rights, title or interest in the downloaded material or software. Please remember that it is illegal to re-publish, sell, reproduce or otherwise exploit any items on our site for material purposes from this website, or create any item based on the content of this site.
03 Only adults (persons aged 18 and over) are allowed to enter into legally binding contracts, and so we’re afraid that we may only accept orders from you if you are over this age. Anyone else who is not permitted or unable to enter into a legally binding contract is not allowed to order goods through our site. If you don’t qualify under these conditions, please do not place an order with us – it’ll get us all in trouble!
01 Any information, content or opinions given on our website are purely subjective and although we do our best to be as accurate and honest as possible, we cannot guarantee their fitness for purpose or accuracy.
02 We reserve the right to change the content at any time and will not be held liable for any failure of software during a purchase or at any time whilst using our site.
Receipt of Order
01ShinyPrettyThings must receive payment in full for your order before it can be accepted. If you decide to take advantage of our layaway payment option (by instalments within 90 days), then we will accept your order once the deposit has been paid. The sparkle in question will be marked ‘confirmed by shopper’ on the website and kept safely for you until payment has been made in full, at which point we will send you a full receipt by email detailing all the payments you have made before posting your sparkle out to you! If you decide to cancel your layaway before the final payment, all previous payments will be converted to store credit.
02 Once your payment has been authorised and stock is checked, ShinyPrettyThings will send you an email receipt confirming your order. Please keep this receipt for your records. ShinyPrettyThings reserve the right to refuse to supply to any person for whatever reason. This is highly unlikely to happen to you, and is really just about making sure that war criminals and wrong-doers don’t get their grubby hands on our lovely pieces.
03 There is also the remote possibility that another user may have bought the item at exactly the same time as you. In this case, it’s fastest finger first. Sadly, we very rarely carry two of the same item at any time, but we will make a note that you were interested in that piece and make every effort to let you know if another one comes up in stock! Errors do regrettably happen at our end too, so if there has been an error in listing the price, we will have to withdraw the item as well. We will refund your money and get in touch and explain the situation if this should occur.
04 Please be absolutely sure you wish to purchase an item before you commit to buy it. If you’re concerned about anything at all, just give us a call!
Cancellations & Exchanges
Oops! Mistakes happen – we’ve all clicked the wrong button…
01 If you’ve realised you’ve bought the wrong piece and want to cancel your order, please get in touch. As we try to send out your sparkle as quickly as we can, it may not be possible to stop your order so in those cases please follow the instructions for 'Returning an item'.
02 Exchanges work in the same way. If you need your exchange to be processed quickly, it may be faster for you to claim a refund on a product by following the instructions 'Returning an item', and meanwhile place another order for the item you require. Although this will mean two transactions on your credit card, it’s a much faster way for you to guarantee getting the ShinyPrettyThing you really want.
03 If you’re at all confused or worried about any of this then please get in touch and we’ll do our best to help!
Shipping & Handling
01 Your sparkle will be shipped as soon as possible (once payment has been received) but certainly within 3 business days of receipt of payment. Our apologies, but we can’t ship to a postal box address. Your ShinyPrettyThing will need to be signed for by an adult on receipt – this is to guarantee safe delivery. For details on our pricings for shipping, please see our Delivery Details.
02 Your sparkle will be fully insured in transit and will be sent at the risk of ShinyPrettyThings.
03 If you live outside of the UK, and your sparkle has to cross international borders, you will be responsible for any additional duties, taxes and/or tariffs that might be incurred.
04 Once the sparkle leaves our hands and is in the hands of the courier or Royal Mail, we can no longer take responsibility for any delays in its delivery… sorry!
05While we do our best to keep on top of the changing rules and regulations regarding imports to different countries, ShinyPrettyThings cannot guarantee that the sale and delivery of particular types of sparkles to your particular country or location is allowed, so please be aware of your own geographic import restrictions.
06 Alligator and crocodile watch straps cannot be shipped internationally. If you purchase a watch with an alligator or crocodile strap as a part of an international order, then ShinyPrettyThings will swap the existing strap with one composed entirely of leather, fabric or rubber. We will contact you to discuss your choice of strap.
07 This site and its contents will not constitute the basis for any contractual commitment between ShinyPrettyThings and any prospective customer in any jurisdiction in which the solicitation of interest or the offering of or sale of products by ShinyPrettyThings would contravene any applicable local, regional or national legislation. No prospective customer should seek to make any order through the site from jurisdictions in which it would be illegal for ShinyPrettyThings to sell products.
The sparkle wasn’t right for you? That’s a shame, but don’t worry, we’ll have it back!
We will accept returned goods for a refund if you:
01 Contact us to let us know that you would like to return the item and get it back to us in its original packaging within 14 days via a secure and insured service. We can give recommendations for these if it would help.
02 Please return the item in the same condition as it was received by you - damaged, broken or altered items are not eligible for a refund. If you would like to have something altered we would advise that you get in touch with us, but if you do choose to go through your own jeweller and they hurt your sparkle, we cannot take it back. Sorry!
03 Please remember you are buying a piece of vintage jewellery – it needs to be treated with love and care. These items are not suitable to wear whilst gardening, washing / showering, playing sport etc. Foil-backed items should not come into contact with water as this may cause discolouration and clouding of the stone. The items offered for sale on this site are in good condition and with careful treatment should remain that way. Please see our blog for guidance if you are uncertain about how to care for vintage jewels or just give us a call and ask.
We get concerned about this too, so to make things simple for you, here are the key points:
01 We collect statistics about your visit. It’s just to give us an idea of which pages you look at so we know what’s working and what you want to see more of. They’re totally anonymous, so we don’t know it’s you personally, just that lots of people look at certain things so we know to do more of them.
02 We link up to social media sites so that you can post pictures and links if you like them. This means that people like Facebook and Twitter might know that you’ve been here. We can’t control what they do with this information, but we don’t believe that their knowing that poses any kind of threat to you.
03 If you create an account with us we will do everything we can to keep your information safe. We’ve installed all sorts of security software to make sure that nothing will happen to it. We believe that privacy is a right not a privilege, so we will never share any of your details with other people or companies without your explicit permission.
04 As a follow-on from this, we promise that we will never share any of your data with third parties except to help us deliver our own services. This is mainly to do with making payments online.
For a bit more detail, please keep reading:
05 We use Google Analytics to measure visitor numbers. This tells us what you look at, how you found us, and a bit about the computer you’re using. It’s all totally anonymous – we don’t know who you are, just that someone took a look at what we’re up to! This information helps us work out what we’re doing right and how we could do better. If you’d like to get in touch and give us more detailed feedback, we’d be delighted to hear from you!
06 You may have noticed the social media link buttons on our website – they allow you to ‘like’ , ‘tweet’ and ‘pin’ things from our site quickly and easily. In order to make these work, we have to embed some code into our site from the social media’s site – they control this, not us. It means that they can collect information to tell you how many of your friends also like us. We don’t get any of that information and we have no control over how those social media networks use it. But as we’re not up to anything naughty over here (apart from tempting you with some perilously pretty things), we don’t think this should be any cause for concern.
07 If you set up an account with us, we will store the information you give us (name, email address and shipping details) so that you don’t have to enter these details every time you want to buy something (we’re hoping you’ll like it here, so will come back and see us again!). We also keep account and transaction history for accounting purposes and because the tax man tells us we have to. This won’t include your banking details – all of that is handled by our payment providers – they tell us nothing of this type and we wouldn’t feel comfortable about it if they tried to! They have their own terms and conditions – you may read these at www.paypal.com..
08 We may send you emails from time to time about your service (invoices or sparkle delivery details), or newsletters (if you have signed up to receive these). You can choose not to receive these things at any time should you so wish. We will never give any of your personal details to third parties, unless it is absolutely unavoidable in order to deliver our services and sparkles, in which case, we do need to tell the postman where you live!

a We will store your data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

01 Here at ShinyPrettyThings we work really hard to keep everything as accurate as possible. We don’t like being told tall tales and we won’t willingly do it to you. However, we have to work with what we know, what we are told and what research tells us; and sometimes even the greatest minds make mistakes, or new discoveries are made that contradict previous findings.
02 Because of this, we would advise that you that all the information contained in this website is for general information purposes only. All information is provided by ShinyPrettyThings unless otherwise stated, and while we do our best to keep it up to date and correct, we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability or availability with respect to the website or the information, products, services, or related graphics contained on the website for any purpose.
03Any reliance you place on such information is therefore strictly at your own risk (although we do recommend that you follow our care guidelines for jewels!).
04 In no event will we be liable for any loss or damage including without limitation, indirect or consequential loss or damage, or any loss or damage whatsoever arising from loss of data or profits arising out of, or in connection with, the use of this website.
05 We have a number of links to other websites on our website – mostly on the blog. Unless expressly stated, we have no control over what they’ve put up there, so it would be unreasonable to expect us to take responsibility for what they say or do! Also – just because we’ve linked to one page in their site, it doesn’t mean that we recommend or endorse what they say anywhere else on their site.
06 Every effort is made to keep the website up and running smoothly. However, ShinyPrettyThings takes no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, the website being temporarily unavailable due to technical issues beyond our control. If you aren’t happy with the site, please do let us know – we can’t fix problems if we aren’t aware of them – but please bear in mind that your only legal recourse is to stop using the site. We’d rather you didn’t, so please talk to us first!
01Your use of this site and any contract between you and ShinyPrettyThings for the sale of products shall be governed by and shall be construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales. If any provision of these terms and conditions shall be unlawful, void or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable for these terms and conditions and shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any remaining provisions.
02 In plain English, this means that we operate under the laws of our host country (England) and so any disputes will be settled according to those laws rather than the laws of the country you are in. Usually, there isn’t much difference between them in their effect, so as long as we all play nicely we should get along just dandy!
03 These Terms and Conditions do not affect your statutory rights.
Thank you for reading through our terms and conditions. We hope you enjoy working with us – we’re looking forward to helping you find your sparkle!
