The central point of this unusual ring is an ancient bronze coin with a Medusa face detail. It is mounted in an organic 18 carat yellow gold mount with 3 asymmetrically positioned natural rubies. This ring was made circa 1970-1980.
The Medusa iconography is well known from Greek mythology, symbolizing the wild woman and the feminine power, diminished by her defeat at the hands of Perseus. Despite her death, the head of Medusa still retained the power over life and death.
The shank of this ring has a branch-like texture and is marked 18K for American manufacture and 18 carat gold. Currently a size M.5 (US 6.5).
