Meet the Team!
Before we get going (or after if you've just joined us - welcome!), we thought you might like to know who's behind the posts here at Sparkle Squad HQ.
Lovingly referred to as 'The Gem Geek', this girl knows her stones. Qualifying first in her year globally in the diamond exams, she holds an FGA and a DGA from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A). As if this wasn't enough, she went on to take her FEEG exams last year. There are way too many letters after her name. To top it all off, she also teaches Gemmology at Gem-A. We've made her promise to go easy on us in regard to the science behind the stones, but she keeps an eye on all our shiny pretty things and is happy to advise where needed. If you have a question for her just let us know!
A Key to Gemmology Qualifications:
FGA - Fellow of the Gemmological Association - gained by passing the Diploma in Gemmology.
DGA - Diamond Member of the Gemmological Association - gained by passing the Diamond Diploma.
FEEG - Federation of European Education in Gemmology - a more advanced level of Gemmological studies, bringing the separate European qualifications into alignment.
Obviously there are others, but we'll let her tell you about those in the fullness of time!
The Jewellery Historian
With one degree in Fine Art and another degree in Art History, this girl can combine some pretty highbrow academic research with a more physical understanding of how things are made and put together. She worked for a Bond Street jeweller for four years handling some of the best pieces of fine jewellery in the world, before going on to spend another four years up to her (meticulously groomed) eyebrows in jewellery books. An obsessive storyteller, researcher and maker of jewellery scrapbooks, what she doesn't know she'll find out about!
Oh boy. Can this girl ever shop. Unable to stay in the same country for more than a couple of weeks at a time, she has a bad case of wanderlust. Armed with a huge list of global contacts in the field, with the Gem Geek and the Historian on speed-dial, she embarks on voyages of discovery to fairs, markets, auctions and dimly-lit shops around the world to hunt down treasures for us to drool over. Always deeply excited about her finds, we can't wait to share them with you! She also has some pretty amazing stories to tell about how she found things - we're never sure if she's making them up or not, but our latter-day Indiana Jane is definitely a girl with an eye for the diamond in the rough!
The gurus at this fab company not only build and maintain our beautiful website, they also give us great advice on social media, press interactions and all things marketing related... on top of which they'll administer a much needed boot to the behind if we ever start slacking off! They are awesome and we couldn't recommend them more. <3 <3 <3

FAO: "The Gem Geek"
After our chat at the Gem-A AGM on Friday I felt I must have a look at your web site. It is very impressive - much more exciting than the band structure of diamond!
